The Bread and Puppet Theater is a politically radical puppet theater, active since the 1960s.
· P e t e r · S c h u m a n n · This kind of theatre was founded by Peter Schumann. He was born 1934 in Silesia,Germany he was a sculptor and dancer. He moved to the U.S.A in 1961, and three years after this, he founded Bread & Puppet in New York. In 1970, he and his company moved to Vermont, eventually settling in Glover.
· C a u s e s · o f · A r i s e · The parades were originally inspired to protest and join the civil unrest in New York City against the USA occupation of Vietnam in the streets (1962–1963). Ever since, the parades and later circus performances have aimed to address political struggles and current events that affect the world, and “take...art into the streets”(Bell 271) and to people for them to understand these matters in a more artistic way or simply to inform about current events that have an impact on the global community.
